From the regular arrow-pointer to a sizing cursor (8 varieties) to an edit-caret marker to a splitter and whatever else is the normal cursor for the underlying window. The problem is that the mousecursor keeps changing as I move over other windows. Preferably, this should be a resource-based icon, but I'd be happy already with just the standard crosshair icon (IDC_CROSS). However, I also want to change the mouse cursor to visually inform the user that something special is going on. I can trap the entire range of mouse moves even outside of the application window, which is precicely what was needed. However, when the user presses the hotkey, I'm trapping all mouse messages (globally) and do what I need done. The hookfunction most of the time does nothing but call the CallNextHookEx().
